Watch our directors and brave volunteers take part in the Ice Bucket Challenge to support FightMND!

Did you know at least 2 people are diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) everyday?

This devastating disease affects nerve cells and weakens muscles leaving sufferers unable to walk, talk, eat and breathe. With no diagnostic test available and many symptoms similar to other conditions it can take an average of 10-18 months to receive a diagnoses from a neurologist. Currently, more than 2,000 people in Australia suffer from MND including former AFL player Neale Daniher who leads the annual Big Freeze at the ‘G event.

Inspired by this event and wanting to get involved, DPM directors and volunteers braved the cold in an Ice Bucket Challenge on Friday 29 June. In a fiercely contested auction where the stakes were high, pouring duties for each volunteer were sold to the highest bidder. With the allure of soaking fellow employees proving strong, we were able to raise an incredible $3,117 to support Fight MND.

There is little known about the cause of MND and currently no cure, which makes research vitally important. FightMND is Australia’s largest not-for-profit organisation focused on MND and is instrumental in funding clinical trials and critical care equipment. To  read more about this disease, learn about current research programs or make a donation to help find a treatment head to FightMND.
